1970s: The Reign of the 8-Track and Cassette Players
Going back to the early 1970s, the 8-track tape player was a popular option for car
audio, taking hold of a whole new category of essential in-car features that would soon
be advanced throughout the car industry. It offered a way for drivers to listen to their
favorite albums without relying on the radio, which became a key selling point. However,
by the mid-to-late ‘70s, the cassette tape had overtaken the 8-track due to its smaller
size, improved sound quality, and ability to fast forward and rewind. These cassette
